The Road to Monteverde

Yesterday, our group traveled from La Fortuna to the cloud forests of Monteverde. Before leaving, we had a stop at the famous La Fortuna waterfall, a powerful cascada that drops to a crystal clear stream in the rain forest. Our students had a blast swimming in the chilly waters (especially compared to the previous day’s hot springs). Unfortunately, nobody earned the $20 and a milkshake prize for catching a fish… maybe next year.

After changing in to dry clothes, we made our way through the mountains, ate lunch with a view, and finally landed in Santa Elena. Because of the smaller nature of businesses here, our group is split across three hotels by bus and we will only see each other in passing until we get to the beach. As we pulled in to town, our students witnessed firsthand the misty clouds and relatively cooler temperatures of this region. Dinner last night was a choice between pizza or burgers, which was a welcome break from the rice and beans.

Today is my absolute favorite day of the trip, as we explore the cloud forest and explore Santa Elena. Our adventures are in for a treat!
