Safely in La Fortuna

After the coffee plantation, our buses wound their way through the mountains to La Fortuna, a popular tourist spot in the shadow of Volcán Arenal. After carefully navigating one of our buses out of a precariously tight turn (the children were safely off the bus), we took a hike at the base of the volcano. On our short hike, we learned about carpenter ants, edible leaves, cicada brood cycles, and the mostly flightless curassow.

With full bellies and excited about tomorrow, our travelers are now moving to their rooms for a 9:30 pm bed time. Tomorrow is our “water day”, with a morning of kayaking and an afternoon soaking in the hot springs. Our students have been kind, clean, and quick learners during our very full first day. They are having a blast, and I hope they remember to send you some fun pictures and an occasional “thank you”!
